In May of 2011, I passed out in our home with only my 11 year old daughter and 4 year old son at home. My 11 year old, Isabela, called 911. She was very frightened. Officer Walter responded to the call. As the paramedics came he stayed with my daughter, never left her side until family got here. He comforted her and reassured her. I was pretty sick and in the next few months had surgery. Isabela actually had to go through counseling and take medication for a while to get through the experience.
My son-in-law, who is now a Pearl police officer, had just returned home from a tour of duty the morning Office Walter was shot. We were at the home of my son-in-law's parents celebrating when the call came in about the shooting. It took Isabela a day or so to realize it was the officer who had stayed with her in what she will tell you was the hardest day of her life so far.
I will forever be grateful to him for the love and kindness he showed my child. The shooting actually caused a small set-back for her, but in turn she is now more loving and aware of those around her and the fragility of life.
I can only pray Officer Walter's daughter will one day read this. I know she doesn't need any more proof of what a fine man he was and how his memory lives on in the lives of strangers, but I hope she has one more truth of what her father meant to another little girl.

Thinking of you tonight, my friend. I will never forget the excited, eager Rookie that you were when we first met. My shift had the honor of training you when you first came on. You loved your job Mike and your brothers in blue loved you. You are missed every day my friend and you will never, ever be forgotten. Many of us have had a difficult time and we will never be the same. We know that every time we pin on the badge that there is a chance we won't come home but you put those thoughts out of your mind and go out and do your job. We take comfort in knowing you have your wings and are looking over us from Heaven.

As we look back to 2 years ago toady, it just seems like yesterday, that this brave man left this world..We are so thankful for all our fire department personnel, as well as our police officers and city leaders, for their many long hours, and timeless efforts, to keep us (the community) safe..Stop and thank them for their service, buy them lunch, or just let them know how grateful you are for their service to us...

To a fallen Brother in Blue, it was an honor meeting and training you in my classes. My heart sunked when I was told the news that you were taken away from so many to soon. As I emailed flyers today, your email came back "unable to deliever". I immediately went back to that day when I got the call, shortly after it happened. Your email will not be deleted, so that everytime I send out flyers in MS, you will come back. Rest in Peace and may God Bless your family.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents. May family & friends feel the presence of the "God of All Comfort" as they endure the distressing days ahead. I join them in their agonizing grief & remember them in my prayers.

Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.

Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.

Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.

Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.

We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.

The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
And we recall in comfort
You await us there.
