Reflections for Sergeant Ruben Howard Thomas, III

I am sorry to hear of Sergeant Ruben Thomas' death. Much of the world does not realize the danger correctional staff members face every day. We must watch out for each other and pray for God's protection. My heart goes out to his coworker family as well as his immediate family. I am so sorry to hear this. I will pray for you all as you deal with this grief. I too am former correctional officer, currently working as civilian staff member.

Dear lord when Ruben has pulled down all the neatly folded diapers with sticky fingers ,we are thankful for those perfectly formed fingers. When he ran after us all day long whining we are thankful for those strong little legs and strong lungs. When he spilled milk all over we are thankful that we can provide milk. Lord help to remember always to thank you for all our blessings, for he is and always will be the best of our world rolled into one bundle.

Thank you Sergeant Thomas for your ultimate sacrifice. Words can't begin to say how grateful we are to you and all Law Enforcement personnel. You will be missed by your family, friends and co-workers, but rest assured that you will NEVER be forgotten. Your loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult journey of grief, although I know you are smiling down on them from above. When you see my love running around those streets of gold, flag him down and introduce yourself (and let him know that I miss him every day).

Rest in Peace, Sgt. Thomas.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

No one really knows the risk faced behind the walls but those that have served behind them. So young, makes it ever worse. Those of us that have been blessed with retirement are forever reminded of, there but for the Grace of God go we.

Rest in Peace Sergeant. May St Peter here your call for On The Gate and give you your deserved entry to Heaven.

Sgt. Thomas - I thank you for your service and commitment to the protection of your charges - to the point of giving the ultimate sacrifice.
No one on the outside understands, but we accept the reality each morning-day-& night, that when we step onto the floor of our facilities and do duty within these walls - that we may not walk back out at the end of the shift.
It is a burden you need to carry no more - we carry the load from this point forward.
My heartfelt compassion for your daughter and fiance in this most troubling time. I hope they know the nationwide support awaiting them if they ever need it!

Sergeant Thomas served this country a great deal, more than most ever will. I did not know him personally, but I wish I had. It takes an enormous amount of courage to put your life and limb on the line for a cause that many people do not understand or even contemplate on a normal basis. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice. Rest in peace Sergeant.
