Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Agent Jared Daniel Francom

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Another responsible, productive God-fearing human being taken from his family and friends by a member of society under the grips of some type of illicit drug. I am so sorry for his wife, children and other members of his family. May they take comfort in knowing he was doing what he thought was best for not just them but ALL of us. He was a member of the largest gang in this country. The gang calling themselves law enforcement. This is the gang that will win the war with evil in the en, and this is the gang that will always have your back and help you go on. God bless and keep you.

I know from personal experience that Officer Francom stood up for what's right even if it meant he had to be the lone voice doing so. Thank you Jared, for standing up for me and my wife personally. You didn't know us at the time, yet you defended us...as you did all law abiding citizens of this community. We have lost one of the finest of Ogden's finest...one who truly embodied the type of person described in St. Matthew chapter 25, verse 40:

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

You will be greatly missed by our family, and a grateful community...

I was listening to the SPECTRUM the other day and heard a group of talented musicians talking... about how CAPITAL PUNISHMENT was wrong. At first, I was frustrated with what I felt was disrespect for those of us who have lost loved ones to the inhumanity of evildoers. And then I remembered that my fellow veterans and peace officers walk into the shadows so that others may retain their ignorance. Those who precede us into the darkness deserve our deepest gratitude. May those of us you leave behind, serve better for having been near you.
