"In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.
In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squad room hall.
In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.
In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.
In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty."

But to the family Agent Francom, the injured Officers, and the entire Ogden Police Department, know that you have a strong law enforcement family behind you and you are never alone. My deepest condolences to the family, members of the department, and those served, at the loss of this officer. May faith, family, friends and time join together to ease everyone’s pain at this time of loss.

While many other career choices were certainly available, this officer chose to protect his fellow man, and for this we give everlasting thanks. As the Good Lord said, “Blessed are the Peacemakers.”

Thank you for your service, your convictions and moral character, as well as your devotion to duty. May you now rest in peace, knowing your fellow brothers and sisters will watch over your family and continue the Watch!

As the mother-in-law of a fallen officer, I grieve with and for the Francom family. It hurts deeply whenever one of "ours" is taken away. I also know of the grief and loss of the Department and all of the "brothers". Nothing else equals the loss that they and the family feel.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

Families of the fallen and wounded police officers...
I am deeply saddened over the tragedy you are going through. Following 43 years of telling and showing such news stories, I am still emotionally struck over same. I still watch and ask the same questions. What happens to people? Why? What could we have done? What can we do now? It goes on and on. Please accept my sincere condolences and know you can find support in the work your loved one did and the job he accomplished.
There is no finer responsibility in society than what gained from those who serve others, police officers, teachers, firefighters etc. They certainly are not jobs of fortune. But what would the rest of us do without them.
Draw on family and friends. And, find some resolve from the the rest of us, all of us in this great state and nation. We do mourn with you, all of you, especially those on duty today and tonight and again tomorrow, to raise our children and keep all of us safe. Thank you for your sacrifice.
I know what it's like to lose a close family member. Been there too many times. But I also know what it's like to receive the help from others, through sickness and death, which is so quickly offered. Allow us in. God Bless You!
