I remember Margaret's gentle strength, passion for the outdoors, and her smile. Throughout our academy she was a constant source of encouragement and friendship. She was remarkable, in that she was perfectly driven to succeed, but would always take time to help others do the same. I mourn the loss of a friend, a kind and capable ranger, and a truly good person. Margaret has gone Home to be with the Lord, leaving an earthly legacy of love and service.

My deepest sympathies to her family, Eric, and the girls.

Words are not adequate to express the emotions I feel for Ranger Margaret Anderson and her family, for friends and colleagues at Mount Rainier NP, and for the entire NPS family. Some of the most wonderful people I know are or have been rangers, and Margaret clearly fits in that category. We all hurt over her loss.

I was driving through a remote part of Nevada when I heard about this tragedy, it sent a cold chill down my spine. My wife sitting next to me, started to cry.

The bravery shown by Ranger Anderson that day solidified my resolve to carry on the watch.

My sincere condolences and grattitude goes out to the Anderson family.

I've had the pleasure of working with the LEO's, Climbing & back-country Rangers at Mt Rainier and they are the BEST! My heart is breaking over this.

Eric, I remember so well when you and Margaret arrived at MORA and how excited you were to be coming to a busy park where you would be put to work doing what you both love. I was so impressed and appreciated both of you so much.

I am praying for you and your family for healing. Margaret will be very missed by anyone who knew her. My only comfort is that she is with Jesus.

Margaret, you've always been a hero to me, just watching you work every day. Rest in peace!

Your dedication to the preservation of our Natural Resources was your calling; your Dedication to protect those who enjoyed them was a duty undertaken with great Courage & Passion. You excelled at both and paid dearly. May your children know the Honor with which you served is appreciated by every visitor who has marveled at the breath-taking grandeur of our national Parks.
My thoughts and prayers are with your Family.
May the love you showered upon them carry them through this devastating tragedy.

May St. John Gualbert welcome you Home.

The summer of 2011 was my first season a Climbing Ranger VIP on Mt Rainier. It was the best summer of my life and I met the happiest, most amazing people there and Margaret was definitely one of them. I worked with her several times on various search and rescue operations, she was always a pleasure to work. My heart and prayers are with the family.

At this point I will be number 1180 in terms of comments and reflections here and I know my words will likely never be read. I have all my adult life dreamed of being a park ranger at Mt Rainier National Park, but was put off by the law enforcement aspect. My grandparents served as rangers in the mid 1940's and spent thier honeymoon at Paradise Lodge. I don't really know if this influenced my dreams but I'm sure its in the narrative somewhere. I grew up in the 70's and 80's spending many a weekend visiting what my grandparents called "Our Mountain", too many locations to name her but I know you know Margaret. Being residents of Tacoma, the mountain was always or backdrop, weather permiting. I am overcome with a deep sadness since hearing of Ranger Andersons passing, so senseless and random and impossible to understand. I chose the safer road, I carry out my days in service to the people of Washington state as a financial worker with DSHS. It can be a difficult job I assure you but one I never expect, as I know Margaret didn't , to give my life for. I commend and honor you Margaret for having the bravery that I didn't, to get past the Law Enforcement aspect of the job qualifications, something that so many of the public that you serve never realize is a requirment, and to live what I hope was your dream. I am so sorry for your babies, and will never forget you but will think of you often. You have inspired me to rethink the costs of the jobs you and I do, and perhaps I will fulfill my dream after-all.
