I am truly grateful for all the sacrifice that LEOs have made, thank you.

Sitting together at holiday parties and other joint agency meetings, I remember John as a person who cherished his faith, family and colleagues. His desire to make a difference was guided by his altruism and enthusiasm. He served his country, making a contribution to the safety of our military personnel during two tours in the middle east. Upon his return home, he shared his expertise in furtherance of officer safety. However during many conversations you knew there was not doubt of the importance of the love that he had for his wife, son & daughter. I will keep John, his family & colleagues in my prayers.

I worked with John when I was a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. He was a principled, dedicated law enforcement officer, a reliable, ethical co-worker, and a humble, trustworthy, honorable man. He will be missed.

I had the privilege to work with John on one investigation and from that we became friends. He was the consummate law enforcement professional and a terrific guy. Nobody knew more about explosives than he did. He will be missed from the law enforcement community. God bless John and his beautiful family. RIP.

John, when I received word upon returning to New Jersey today - I became crushed internally. I immediately reflected upon Agent B. Bush, and, the great service qualities you both shared to our nation, as well as abroad. May god bless you, may heaven provide solace, and may you and Barry be flowing into the current of grace with laughter - side by side.

Godspeed-

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Capano family. Our nation had lost a great defender, whose dedication to duty and moral character were apparent in the action that he took. There is no doubt that our Lord was so inspired by John’s final act that he called John into his service. Rest in peace my brother, your watch is complete.
