Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we have suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years. God is our only peace through such incidents. May family & friends feel the presence of the "God of all comfort" as they endure the distressing days ahead. I join you in your agonizing grief & remember you in my prayers.

Another senseless tragedy
Another day of grief,
Another day of praying
To help us find relief.

Relief from bitter anguish
Relief from rage so great,
Relief from lenient justice
Which continues to seal our fate.

Relief from heartache’s torment
As we continue on,
Oh, the awesome loss of brotherhood
Now that you are gone.

Though our hearts are deeply broken
And our tears forever flow,
There’s a comforting assurance
That now with God you go.

We know that you are welcome
Now at Heaven’s gate,
While meeting brothers & sisters
Who also met such fate.

The family of Law Enforcement
Knows no distance here or there,
And we recall in comfort
You await us there.

As you numbly go through the next few days, weeks, and months please know that there is a whole law enforcement family that is with you and wanting to help in any way possible. You have been in my thoughts and prayers since Shawn was wounded and you will continue to be in them. Shawn is now walking in heaven with his fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters that are angels watching over you and your loved ones. If there is anything I can do please contact me, I was in the same place as you are 27 months ago. My husband lived in Lake City while he was a deputy with Wabasha County, it's a beautiful town and community and I am sure you will be surrounded with their love and support. Godspeed.

I want to share something that my brother in blood sent me after Shawn, my brother in blue, passed:

A Place for Me
By Travvis Stayton

Jesus has called upon me to come home; He has sent his angels to carry me to a place well known.
For my body I will need no more, I have found my place just beyond Heaven’s door.
I am at peace now with no more pain, the Lord has made that all go away.

No more suffering, no more tears, no more doctors, no more fears.
I am free as the eagles that fly in the sky, soaring over mountain tops, oh so high.
I am not scared to be here for this is my home, the place where peace, happiness and laughter are known.
I will save a place for you right next to me, under my wing, a safe place to be.
The Lord and I will watch over you until then, keeping you safe until the day we meet again.

Thank you Travvis! And thank you Shawn for these past 9 years that I have had the honor to work beside you. The rest of the guys and I will watch over your family and home on earth as I know you will from heaven.

So, your work on earth is done, and though we long to be with you again in glory...

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep. " -Robert Frost

Much love and respect to you Shawn, my heart will be broken for a very long time and may never be the same. My promise to you is that I will try a little harder each day to be the best person that I can possibly be, to do the best job I can possibly do, and to love my family in the best way that I possibly can.

We prayed for a miracle...that you would heal and return to your family. I'm here to tell you that we got a miracle. And, that miracle was you Shawn, and your life from beginning to end. And miracles beget miracles, those being your three wonderful children and your loving wife and family. I look forward to seeing your kids grow up and I hope someday I have a chance to tell them about our time working together and tell them some funny stories about their daddy, because Lord knows there are enough of those!

Get some rest now, see you next shift...
