Cliff,

The whole team misses you. You were taken way too soon and it's not fair that something like this happened to you. The 63 team will never be the same, the 015th district will never be the same without you. I'm sure you're in a better place and someday we will meet again.

Your friend, your teammate, your brother. 1563A

Your day is done,
gone the sun,
From the hills,
from the lake,
From the skies.
All is well,
safely rest,
God is nigh.

Warrior, good night,
but must you go,
When the day,
And the night
Still need you so?
All is well.
We will carry you
to your rest.

Go to sleep,
peaceful sleep,
May the warrior,
God keep,
Safe in sleep.

Fades the light;
And afar
Goes the day,
And the stars
Shine bright,
Fare thee well;
Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
'Neath the sun,
Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As warriors go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

Polk County Florida Sheriff's Office

In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO! May God
Give the family and friends the strength and faith to deal with this tragic loss. Words can not express my sorrow!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Officer Lewis was doing what a LOT of cops do...working a second job to supplement his salary...a job which required him to protect and serve. God bless and keep him, and comfort his family during this most painful of tragedies.

You will be missed, Officer Lewis.

Another Officer. Yet the Officers keep coming, keep putting the badge on, keep putting it on the line every day. Officer Lewis was one of those few who bravely wore the badge and took the oath to defend. Cowards usually shoot from the back, ambush or use large numbers because they can't stand and fight, they know they will lose, everytime. Officer Lewis was/is a brave Officer, without a doubt. God Bless you sir and your family. These cowards will be caught..bet on it.

Officer Lewis exampled heroism as he placed his life on the line for others each day of his career. Each day we are reminded of dangers of this job as we put on our uniforms and call on duty. We never know what shift will be our final shift, thus we should be reminded to take each day as a gift. As we say goodbye for now to another brother in law enforcement, we commend you for your service and for making the ultimate sacrifice. May God comfort Officer Lewis’ family and may they blessed beyond measure.

At Sergeant Tim Chapins funeral (EOW 4/2/11) the Pastor said "people keeping talking about how this animal (i'm paraphrasing) TOOK Tims life, but he did not TAKE anything, Tim GAVE his life". He was right. I believe we all do, everytime we put these uniforms on and walk out the door. These animals can't take from us what we put on the line. Thats why Officer Lewis is a hero. He made the ultimate sacrifice. My heart goes out to his family, friends and the CPD. God Bless & Godspeed

The police officer stood and faced his Maker, which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining brightly as his brass. “Step forward now, police officer how shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To your Maker, have you been true?” The police officer, with squared shoulders, said “No sir, I guess I ain’t. Because those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint. I’ve had to work most Sunday’s and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I’ve been violent, because the streets are tough. But I never took a penny, that wasn’t mine to keep. Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep. And I never passed by a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear, and sometimes, please forgive me, I’ve wept unmanly tears. I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fears. But if you have a place for me here, well…it need not be too grand. I never expected or had too much so if you don’t…I’ll understand.” There was silence all around the room where the saints respectfully stood. As the police officer waited quietly for the judgment…bad or good. “Step forward now, police officer, you’ve borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven’s streets, You’ve done your time in hell.”
