Reflections for Master Public Safety Officer Edward Scott Richardson

It broke my heart yesterday to see the pain in your wife and childrens eyes. ADPS put on a great service for you and your family. It was truly an honor to escort your family and as we flanked each corner of the hearse I could not be more proud of the citizens of Aiken. They lined the streets for miles with their hands over their hearts. It was an amazing display of support from your community. I wish I could have helpled you that night. Rest in peace, JOB WELL DONE SIR!

Scotty was as good as gold, only he was priceless. I told him often I wish I had a shift full of Scotts. He was a humble man who rarely said a negative word. You could always tell what he was thinking by the smile on his face. He was always full of energy and ready to help anyone and everyone. His wife Amelyn, boys Zander, Chase and Maddox have lost a dedicated husband and father. The boys will grow up to learn their father was a hero in every meaning of the word, but sadly without him to lead the way. Your shift stood strong yesterday as we carried your body to rest. I hope we did you proud. Rest in peace 304, your tour has ended. We WILL carry on and you will never be forgotten.

Dear Richardson Family,
We are so very sorry to hear about your loss. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and your family. We pray that God will surround you and your family with His love and strength at this time. You are in our prayers and Officer Richardson will never be forgotten! HE gave his all for us all and even though its hard to understand the why's I have always believed its a special calling by God to be a Police Officer. Not everyone would lay his life down and protect total strangers. Even though we never met we know each other through the loss of our Police Family. He will always be remembered for his sacrifice he made to us all.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
