Office Figoski, you will be remembered forever in our hearts and this agency for your brave service to the city of New York. You truly defined heroism and bravery. I was not even born when you started your first tour of duty but hope we young ones can learn and live your legacy. This unfortunate event hurts my heart, but this anger will only reaffirm what I believe in on the fight in crime. May you be guarding the gates of heaven. My deepest condolences to the Figoski family.

I live and work in NYC, and feel safe and secure because of the NYPD officers I see every day. Our soldiers keep our country safe and free, but the NYPD fights the battle to keep us safe here at home in our city. They face the unthinkable so we don't have to.

My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Figoski's family. His loss is truly a loss for ALL NY'ers, and I am grateful to him for his service to our city.

A PART OF AMERICA DIED

Somebody killed a policeman today
And a part of America died…
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he had gone off to war,
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half-mast
To his name they will add a gold star.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court
With counsel demanding his rights,
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long, lonely nights.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today…
Maybe in your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks the beat on a dark city street,
And he stands at each new rookie's side;
He answered the call… of himself gave his all,
And a part of America died

Rest in peace Officer Figoski.

Sgt. Randy Keenan (Ret)
City of Alameda CA. Police Department

As a former 75th pct officer and present officer from Nassau County for a total of 29 years, it never gets easier to find out a brother or sister in blue has paid the ultimate sacrifice. May his family find splice in knowing he was a HERO and his life was not taken in vain. To a brother officer may you Rest in Peace and look over us and guide us in the right direction.

What kind of man gets up in the morning, showers, shaves, and goes to work not knowing whether he'll be alive
at the end of the day?
What kind of man has the courage to stand at the door of the temple...and say to those who seek to corrupt,
rob and harm our citizens: " Not on my watch.
You will not harm one of mine"?

Rest in Peace Brother...My thoughts and prayers to your family and friends and Brothers from NYPD.

God Bless officer Figosky and his family. I grew up not far from where he served and I can't forget that because of NYPD and officers like him--willing to make the ultimate sacrifice--a huge city like NY becomes a safer-livable place--instead of the ruthless jungle that some would turn it into.
Thank you officer--may you rest in peace and may God Bless you and your family.
