Reflections for Captain John Wayne Haddock

I wish to express my sincere condolences to Officer Haddock's wife and children and any other family members dealing with the sudden loss. This is a tragic event that no family should suffer. I hope they'll all try hard to remember the good times as there must have been many. I am lifting the Haddock family in my prayers and asking that they feel God's loving arms wrap around them in the days and weeks to come. Again, I am so sorry for their loss.

Please know that, even in death, you will continue to impact those of us who stand on the Thin Blue Line. Your story will be used to teach others so that they may return to their families after duty.

Rest well, brother. We'll take it from here.

After spending last week in a class with you I only met you once. It is hard to hear about all law enforcement death's and even harder when it is so close to home. You fought the good fight and can rest easy my friend. Until we meet again.

I was deeply saddened when I saw your name and killed in the line of duty behind it.

Many years ago you were there for me when my dad passed away. The loss was difficult for me but you always reminded me that there were people in my life who cared about me and my loss and it wasn't just words. I can never repay you for your kind words or tell you how much I appreciate that you took the time out of your life to enrich mine.

While we lost touch over the years I never forgot about you. You were truly one of the great officers in this world. RIP John and tell my dad I said "Hi".

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

Fellow citizens, you sleep well at night because good men stand ready to do violence on your behalf. John Wayne was one such man, a soldier of God. I will never forget his ability to make me laugh with "good morning, sunshine" and "what's up, Hero?"...there was none like him, nor ever will be.

"When I die, better bury me deep,
place that smokey at my feet;
Put my Sam Brown up around my waist,
when I get to Heaven, got to go ten-8."

It is ironic that your EOW was 10-7. Go 10-8 in heaven, my friend. We have the watch from here.
