Every time i see a cop car i look for your car and then see if your in it! I have placed a candle along with other things at the place of your death! I keep replaying the last words you said to me thru my head! You were an amazing man John, and I cared for you deeply! I will forever remember the times we shared! I would like to give my deepest sympathy to the Haddock family. I did not know Captain Haddock personally, but I used to be an EMT at GLMC and responded to calls that Captain Haddock would be there also. We also both worked at the papermill at the same time more recently. He was always nice to me and spoke cheerfully with a smile on his face. I'm just real sad for ya'll and wanted to say my piece and just happened on this website seemed like the perfect oppurtunity.

May God keep you and protect you.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

This is a most horrific situation. This honorable Man spent 22 years protecting the citizens of his jurisdiction, and in just a short time, while still doing his job, his life ended. I spent 30 years in law enforcement, and loved (almost) every minute. Please accept this hero into the heavens. He's still doing his job.

Capt. John Wayne Haddock can now rest in peace. He touched many people in the State of Mississippi and the City of Grenada. Yesterday was a humbling experience for me. The support shown to the Haddock family was amazing. As Sheepdogs we sometimes fall to the wolves, but as Sheepdogs we will stay with the herd and continue to protect the sheeps. Capt. Haddock will be missed by many.

Today, I stood on the side of the road and watched as a great man went by to be laid to rest. Today we lost one of the finest officers in our town. Capt. Haddock was a respected man in the little town of ours...I had the privelege to work with him on many occasions as we worked the home football games here in Grenada. He was a easy going man with a quick smile and good heart. He will be greatly missed.
