I knew Derrick and his parents, Jim and Sharon, as a child in Lakeland, Fl. My parents informed me today of Derrick's passing. I cannot imagine the grief that is being felt by his wife, children, parents, and friends. His laughter is what I will remember the most~God Bless, my thoughts and prayers to you all. RIP Derrick.

My heart goes out to the Whittle family, friends, co-workers, and the people he risked his life for on a daily basis. My prayers are with you all. My Son is also a Deputy here in GA, only a few years younger than Deputy Whittle. Deputy Whittle was too young to be taken away from his wife & children, but...God had a GREATER plan for him. He is now safe in the arms of Jesus. Let's ALL pray for our people who risk their lives on a daily basis to keep us all safe. That's just what Deputy Whittle was doing....protecting & serving. May God be with each & everyone of you from this day forward.

For Deputy Sheriff Derrick Whittle:

Our duty on patrol involves many risks and remaining chief among them is the operation of the patrol vehicle on the highway. No matter the training the experience we are always subject to the various situations that lead to serious crashes. We regret that Derrick would be the latest among us who would lose their life in the service to others.

We pray for Derrick's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.

We are proud to render Deputy Derrick Whittle, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Deputy Whittle,

I did not know you and I did not work with you, but you wore a badge and a uniform everyday that you went to work, just as many of us do. You answered the call that you needed to serve your fellow man. Seeing the multitude of people at you visitation it was clear that you were a man that was greatly loved and appreciated.

You will not only be remembered for what you did as a law enforcement officer, but what you did for your family and community. You will be greatly missed by your law enforcement family throughout our great nation. Your family will always remain in our thoughts and prayers. We will miss you my brother.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2nd Timothy 4:7.
