I met Derrick in 07 while looking for a house in Blairsville. He was my realtor and we bought a house from him. We moved here and remained friends with Derrick and his family. I always enjoyed talking with him and we used to crack jokes with each other. I remember when he decided to go to the academy and join the Sheriff's Office. He was really proud and happy when he went full time. I know he was very happy with what he was doing. It seems so surreal now that he is gone. I will miss our phone calls and jokes. He was a great father, husband, son and friend.

Derrick was a highschool class mate of mine, we play soccer together and if there was one person I wanted on my team, not just because of skill, but more importantly heart, it was him, he had your back.

He will take his place among those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in protecting the citizens of Union County. He will be missed but certainly not forgotten.

Go with God my friend.
