I'm 74 work part time as a college Police dispatcher.
Every time one of our brother's gets killed it
makes me wish I was about 45 years younger so
I could be out there fighting the bad guys.

RIP Officer Lasso. You chose this job and gave your all so selflessly. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this very tragic time. While we did not know you, we feel the pain your wife, family and fellow Officers are feeling at this time. Our son was very sad as he saluted you when your motorcade passed by tonight. He is very proud of his father, a Police Officer also, as your children are and will always be of you. We pray for your family and for the safety of all our Officers.

I am so sorry and sad to hear of the loss of Officer Lasso. I did not have the honor of knowning him, but I feel as though I have lost another brother. May God look down on your family and fellow officers and provide some comfort to all of you in this most tragic time.

Officer Lasso:

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Rest in peace and God bless to you.

"This is my Shield. I bear it before me in battle, but it is not my own. It protects my brother on my left, it protects my city. I will never let my brother out of its shadow, nor my city from its shelter. I will die with my shield before me, facing the enemy."

God speed brother.

."A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

Ofcr. Lasso....Bob, when I heard the news tonight I was floored to hear you were gone. It was just like yesterday that I was at the court talking and joking around with you. You are such a great police officer and an even nicer guy. You will be sadly missed and I pray for you, your family and department. Your death is a grave reminder that it can happen to each and every one of us who put on a badge daily without moments notice. God needs you, we will take it from here. R.I.P. Officer Robert Lasso.
