Reflections for Police Officer Robert Allen Lasso

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

I was just looking at some old memorabilia from my time on the Freemansburg PD back in 1980 -1982. Then went online looking at some articles about the burg. I came across the articles about PO Lasso. I felt compelled to write this small note. I did not know Robert, I was long gone before he was on the job there, but I said a prayer for he and his family tonight, may he continue to rest in eternal peace. I hope and pray his wife and children are doing ok, my thoughts and prayers! RIP Brother

John 5:28, 29 - "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I pray that everyone can find peace in knowing that we will see this officer as well as many others again in Paradise soon. Until then, please accept my condolences.

I remember Robert as a student at Freemansburg Elementary School right across the street from the police station. He and my son didn`t always see eye to eye. There were little struggles as they were going through school together that my son Kenan would come home and tell me about. Two boys probably couldn`t have been more different! But they both grew up and my son moved to Bethlehem. One day he was driving his car through Freemansburg when it broke down. He wasn`t able to get it all the way off the road. Then a policeman arrived. It was Robert. He helped my son get his car onto the shoulder and took him to a garage to get a mechanic. Kenan told me that it was so good to see Robert again and to have his help. All the little things from past years were gone and now my son has this wonderful warm memory of Robert and the meaningful help he gave him that day. If Kenan`s car had to break down I`m glad it happened close to our old home and that Robert was there to help. We won`t forget Robert as a little boy or the helpful, supportive police office he became!

Finally saw your place on the wall this past January, and at that moment, Metro PD's' sirens went off and it was as if I was there all over again on Aug 11, 2011. I can't believe it's been almost 5 years. I didn't know you well but I remember you and miss you brother. Still praying for you and yours.

Robert, I remember responding to this call like it was just yesterday. The loss I feel has not gotten any easier and I dont believe it ever will. I will never forget the calls we were on together or the smile you always had not matter what was going on. I know you are watching over us, and you will always be remembered.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiance Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Lasso. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Robert he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Robert's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Robert's life was about so much more than the way he died. Robert will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Lasso, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight & a half years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

We are deeply saddened by this senseless murder. May the ruthless criminal responsible be brought to justice and sentenced to the most severe penalty. You are a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice. The memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice will remain forever. May God bless you, your family and brother/sister officers.

Dear Lasso family,
My heart goes out to you all, cause I do know what your whole family is going through. Three years ago my S-I-L officer David Tome, was reconstructing an accident, when a driver not paying attention, speeding, on cell phone, and putting on makeup, hit and killed him. He was like my son. When the officers came to tell my daughter, she wasn't home. They officers got ahold of me, and I had to tell her. That nightmare plays over and over in my mind constantly. David also was 31 yrs old, 2 small children. When I heard of your loss, my heart just hurt so bad for all of you. For I know what lies ahead of you. I will some how get ahold of the police station where officer Lasso worked, and give them information how to get ahold of me. If I can help and give support in anyway, I want to be there for you. It may be 3 yrs of our loss, but it still is like yesterday. I miss my S-I-L so much. Always remember God is with you all. He never leaves you or forsakes you. With God's help, that is how I get through each and everyday.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"
