To the family of Trooper Guthrie.
I offer my condolences to all of you on the loss of your father and husband. As a part time employee of the Camp Branch Marina at Smithville Lake it has been my pleasure to know Fred's children who also work part time at the lake. In addition it has been my pleasure to have had several conversations with Trooper Guthrie as we serviced his boat or simply being around the marina talking to the boaters. I had the pleasure of a converation with Fred two days prior to this accident and will always cherish that visit.

To the family and friends of Trooper Fred Guthrie, his fellow troopers, and most especially to Trooper Guthrie:

We honor your service and you will always be remembered and revered. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Fred was killed in the line of duty. It is obvious he was well-loved by many and well-respected by his peers as reflected in the loving reflections left for him.

May his loved ones continued to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of distinquished service Fred gave to his community and the citizens of Missouri, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on August 1, 2011.

Please God, i ask that Trooper Guthrie is found so that his friends and family may have closure. It is an especially hard time of the year with this situation. I am not saying that the recovery of Trooper Guthrie will make things easier at this time but i believe it is something everyone needs so they can move on with proper respect given at a time when it is needed the most! A time that we give thanks to you our lord. A time that we pray for others during the upcoming holidays. It is a time that i pray for the family and friends of Trooper Guthrie.

To stand so close, and yet to be so far away each day as we search. The question is always, "is there something else we can try?". My prayer for you the family is that our Lord would embrace you with His love each moment of each of these days. My prayer for those who continue to search that their heart would be strengthened each day with new hope. I continue to pray today for you....

I am hearing that they are so close to finding your body and bringing some semblance of closure to your dear family. I pray that the search will soon be concluded and you will receive the honor and burial that you so greatly deserve. Many prayers to your family in the days ahead and as the holidays approach, knowing that the loss of a loved one hurts even more during the holidays. May they all be comforted in knowing that, even in this moment, you are safe in the presence of the Savior.

I did not personally know Officer Fredrick Guthrie, Jr. but I want to express how deeply sad I feel to hear that he lost his life to help others. I know he and his canine will be sadly missed by his fellow officiers and mostly by his family. I was over at the spot where he was last seen on Sunday the day before he had his accident. The water was terrible and the people who were working were so nice to let us look at all the devistation. Today September 10, 2011 we drove back over to see how things were progressing as far as the water going down. We once again found ourselves at the exact spot we were on July 31st. When we arrived there were some people at the same spot so we got out to get a closer look at the damage. We went to were the people were and I soon found out it was Officer Guthries family. I had the pleasure of meeting his parents, his wife and his sons. I had such a strong feeling of the kind of man he was just by meeting his family. I told them that they have been in our prayers since the accident and will continue to be in our prayers. I felt really privilaged to have the chance to meet his family. I will say that he was one special man. He has a great family who love him dearly. I will remember this day for the remainder of my life as I feel I was lead to this spot on this day to meet his family and remember this man who served for us. My heart goes out to each family member and of course all the friends and fellow officiers. You will all remain in my prayers forever. GOD BLESS OFFICIER GUTHERIE, JR and his cainine REED for all the great work they did while here on this earth. God bless the family and keep them wrapped in your arms of faith.

"Never forget what they did here. It is rather for us, the living, to be dedicated here to the great task remaining before us - that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain."

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

This is undoubtedly a hard thing to process. We have became really good friends with Fred over the years in Holt County. He has been in Holt County a lot over the last few years, due to flooding. He was a great man and friend and will deeply be missed! Thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and Co-workers of the MSHP. Also, keeping the several involved in the search in our prayers! God please let him be found soon! Fred you were a great asset to the water patrol and Hwy patrol. Rest in Peace
