Brother Russ, I am devastated over this but definitely not surprised that you passed assisting a fellow Officer. As you assisted me many, many times at MRMC I have always seen you as my little brother. I admired your strong passion for law enforcement and enjoyed watching you climb the ranks as from Dietary to Security Officer and then to a Police Officer. Russ I am going to miss your smile and laughter. R.I.P. Your Watch is over my friend I am Honored to have you in my life.

Police Officer's Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

God Bless you for your service. My prayers go out to your family.

Russ, I am honored to have known you as an officer, co-worker and most importantly a friend. You never backed down from a challenge, even as an unarmed security officer at one of the busiest malls in the area. And you died responding to assist another officer, again nothing I would not have expected from you. You were always there when we needed you. You paid the ultimate price for that, and for that I call you a hero. Rest in Peace Russ, for your work here is done. I Pray for your wife, family and extended WSPD family. You also have a second extended family in GPD who has not forgotten what you completed here in your short stay with us. I am comforted in knowing that their is an Angel now who has my back and will be watching over me. Until we meet again, I say Goodbye for now.

Your friend,
"Mayo"

Russ,

It breaks my heart to hear what happened. I have a pit in my stomach thinking about the loss of another great officer and the tragic way you lost your life. Although our time was short together, I enjoyed working with you. We both had moved on to greener pastures since the days of GPD, but you will never be forgotten my brother. You have made the ultimate sacrifice, and that sacrifice will forever engrained in our hearts! Rest in peace "Lt" Russ! God bless you and your family.
