I happened to pass the memorial of this "fallen officer's" police cruiser when returning to Salina from a vacation back East. I pulled over and prayed. I felt totally connected to the officer, his K-9 Shadow, the Department and the Community. What a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the entire community. RIP you have served your city proudly.

Well, where do I start. Brent, today 7-18-2011, you were honored by your friends, co-workers, and other Law Enforcement Officers from all over. It was a fitting and well deserved send off for someone who was willing to give his life to protect others. Shadow is doing fine, he just doesn't like the muzzle that he needs to wear until he heals.
God bless you Brent. You are missed

At the tender age of 8 years old I had my most memorable reflection of a Police Officer. My father had shot & killed my mother as some of watched. My Godfather, Officer Roger Spring of the Boston Police Department never left our side. He along with officer's from the department did everything they could to sheild us away from the tragedy we had just witnessed. I will never forget the impact of that one bullet changing my life forever but I will ALWAYS remember the men in blue who showed up to comfort, care for & protect us in the most tragic moment of our life.

My Godfather has long since passed on but he engrained in me an image of what a Police Officer should be. After watching your service today & the community all week, I do believe you were one in the same as the one I knew as an 8 year old child. May you rest in peace.

To the Long family: May his wings meet him upon his release, may his soul have a gentle place to dwell & may you all be reunited in God's time.

To the Officers he left behind: You are truly appreciated for the chances you take, the courage you show & the strength to carry on.

God's Will & God's Speed to all those called to serve.

I wanted to express condolences for the loss of officer Long to his family, friends, co-workers and community. It is a terrible loss when a man of such outstanding abilities, skills, and passion for respectable living is lost. It is a frightening world in which we live. I am an Emergency Nurse and I have true respect for the job our law enforcement officers do every day and every night. They help keep us all safe. There have been numerous times in which I have had to call for assistance in my line of work and could have been seriously injured or harmed if I did not have such a great team supporting us. Officers such as Long are always there in the shadow, and in the line of fire, protecting and serving. I am very thankful for all they do every day. I lift his name up in prayer and pray for healing for his family. What a tragedy and loss for all, especially those who knew him personally. God bless you all. And God bless the officers out there making our world a better place every single day!
