Reflections for Police Officer Brent Daniel Long

I have known Brent since he was in high school. Working off duty there used to be one of my part time jobs. Brent was a great kid even then and it was a privilege to get to know him. Brent has always been in public service in one form or another. When he was of age he became a volunteer fireman, then went on to work at the Vigo County Jail and shortly after I left the PD he came on the department. You could not find a more dedicated, friendly and caring person, just a great guy. He loved everything about public service as he lived and breathed it even before becoming a Police Officer. I used to speak with his mother all the time as well, she knew nothing would make him happier than becoming a full time police officer. I spoke with her shortly after he came on the PD and she told me how proud he was to be living that dream. Brent, you will be missed by many and you will always have a special place in my heart.

Rest in peace my fellow brother. I am deeply saddened by your loss but extremely proud of your service and sacrifice. You are walking the streets paved with gold now while your killer shall burn for eternity in hell.

I thank you for your service and I pray for your family. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of god. Also, the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. You stood tall and you fought against evil and I applaud you.

Till we meet in Heaven. Godspeed my fellow brother.

I have lived in terre haute most of my 49 years. I have always been able to count on the terre haute police department to help me when i needed them. You've helped me with trespassers, vandals, a car crash, and the horrible death of my good friend Kathy Cummins. Officer Long will be sorely missed in our community. My heart goes out to his family, his friends, and his comrades at the terre haute police department. He will be in my thoughts and prayers for some time to come, as will those who stood beside him as he fell. God bless you all. You have the most difficult and thankless of jobs. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all for what you do without hesitation every day.
