Reflections for Police Officer Brent Daniel Long

I miss you Brent. You are and will always be missed Brother.

Former THPD Officer Jon Perillo

Still think about your every day brother. For the first few months, just about every day Murray and I would wear sunglasses, even if it was dark, to hide the tears and our eyes from the public. Now I find the best time to think about you is when I'm out running, when the tears are hidden by sweat. We love and miss you.

Brent,

It's been several months since you left. I know we were never friends, but it was a pleasure to work with you on the THPD. Chad and I left early in 2011, but we both think about you almost daily. Attending your funeral and viewing were tough, and I know many of your close friends were heartbroken. I wanted you to know that I never forgot you backing me on calls, and knowing a capable and trusted person was on their way. I remember in late 2010, you running "hot" to back me up on a shoplifter from the mall, and me telling you on the radio I was spent. You showed up almost immediately and I was relieved to see you.

"...the solemn pride that must be yours to laid so costly a sacrafice upon the ultar of freedom."

To the family and friends of Officer Brent Long, his fellow officers, and most especially to Brent:

We honor your service to your community as a law enforcement officer. You will always be remembered and revered. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Brent was killed in the line of duty. It is obvious he was well-loved by many and well-respected by his peers as reflected in the loving reflections left for him.

May his loved ones continued to be supported by their law enforcement family and other police survivors. Our family grieves with you and for you. To Brent's family, you are in my heart's embrace today. I share your anquish in losing a beloved family member which surely has to be life's greatest sorrow.

This was your family's first Christmas without you. They are all in my thoughts and prayers during these difficult days.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Brent gave to his community and the citizens of Indiana, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July11, 2011.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiance Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Long. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Brent he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Brent's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Brent's life was about so much more than the way he died. Brent will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Long, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiance Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight & a half years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

Brent - Coming up on two months now that you have been gone. It still does not seem real. We all sure had some good times together growing up and then working at the VCSD.
I have so many memories from my life that you are a part of. I never ever dreamed that we would be 34 years old and attending your funeral.
Last week I got to spend an evening with Danielle & the kids.
Danielle is absolutely the strongest woman I have ever met, god put her with you for a reason.
Rest in peace my friend. We are all so very proud of you. You are forever a hero!

As it does everytime I learn of a LODD, My heart sank when I heard the news of Officer Brent Long's shooting and subsequent death. My heart goes out to his wife, children, other family members, and friends. I did not know Brent, but you are a true hero. I spent 13 years as a police officer and will always be one at heart. I couldnt keep the tears from falling as I watched every broadcast on tv about Officer Long. I was proud of the support from the community. He obviously touched a lot of lives. God Bless you Brother.
