Reflections for Investigator Warren Basco "Sneak" Lewis, III

Sneak, you were the first friend that I made when I started at the Sheriff's Office 9 years ago. Your smile and jokes have always made the worst of times better and the world lost a ray of light with your passing. As I told your family, it was truly an honor to know you and be able to call you a friend. Rest well brother because you have definitely served your time in hell.

From the Melton's Family to the family of of Officer Lewis, you have our deepest sympathy. It hurts to hear about a senseless tragedysuch as this. I pray that God will strengthen you and to continue to keep you in his care. I dont know him personally but I feel in my heart he was a great man because this have really affected me. God said whatever you do to the least one you have also done unto me. May God bless and remember God is in control and the prayer of the righteousness will prevail.

Rest in peace brother...

You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

To the family and friends of Investigator Lewis and his fellow deputies:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Warren was tragically killed.

To the Lewis family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

Warren was such a brave and noble officer and his bravery and selflessness will not be forgotten. It is so sad that he was robbed of his life at a young age. His spirit shall continue to inspire.

My son, Officer Larry Lasater, was murdered in 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg (CA) police officer. Larry and I were born in Durham and Investigator Lewis served the community where my grandparents lived. My thoughts and prayers ae with that community today.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Warren gave to his community and the citizens of North Carolina, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 9, 2011.

I knew sneak before he got into law enforcement, and even then he always wanted to do his best. My son works with him at NCSO and there isn't a day that goes by that i wonder if I will get the call. We all know the dangers of the job, but always believe the results are worth the risk. We enjoy helping people that we don't know. It's our nature. All your other families other than the immediate one will never replace your presence, but they will certainly fill the gap. Your job is finished here and hopefully we all will see you again over there. My sincere thoughts go out to the family, his co-workers at NCSO, and the people that he personally touched. Last but not least, don't just tell'em you love'em, show'em. Might not get the second chance.

Warren Lewis touched the lives of many people in his travels around eastern North Carolina and many of those people I know. I wish there were words that could be said that would erase all the hurt and emptiness being felt by his friends and family, but there is only faith in God that can ease those feelings. Rest assured he is in a better place now.

And for those active law enforcement officers that reflect on Inv. Lewis’ end of tour I leave you with a few thoughts. We are asked to do things most people wouldn’t or couldn’t do, but our goal everyday is to return home to those that love us. Being “on the job” is a marathon not a sprint. Catching the bad guy is simply an objective to get us to retirement. Train hard and remember your training!

Rest In Peace Warren Lewis

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

My heart goes out to the family, officers, and friends I know how it feels to lose a son in the line of duty. His E.O.W. was on 04.12.2011 @ 11:37 PM. Trust in God and never ask the family if they are getting better. Rose Kennedy wrote "It has been said that time heals all wounds. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue, and the pain lessens, but it is never gone."

The news of a fallen officer is always heartbreaking! As I read the earlier reflections and saw that Officer Lewis was "III" in his family line, that he had a wife and children, and all of the heartfelt sentiments of his fellow-officers... I was humbled by his bravery and heroism and filled with grief for their loss. My most tender thoughts and loving prayers go out to all who knew him and will miss his presence in the days to come. God's Grace be with each of you.

I know he will receive a Hero's good-bye...the ceremony is one that can touch the heart of even the most stoic that witness it...I know, too, that he will receive a Hero's welcome in Heaven...for in his sacrifice, in the service of others, he has touched the heart of God.
