Reflections for Investigator Warren Basco "Sneak" Lewis, III

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Sneak, you are remembered everyday and miss terribly. The loss is still as raw today as it was ten years ago. I still go spend time with your Dad often as I know you’re keeping an eye on my parents. It’s a joy to see your girls growing up and showing us all a strength we learn from. Your are never forgotten and always included in family conversations. You will always be my little cousin. I can still hear your voice when I’d be leaving the family reunions headed to whatever state or county…”Stay safe out there and you know where I am.” I still know where you are…forever in my heart. Thank you for being my hero. Always…Susan

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you and the person you were. This week is especially hard because your baby is graduating high school. You would be proud of Ashley and Lauren. They both were so very young when you were taken from them. Shannon has done an amazing job raising them. You would be proud of their strength and the positive attitude they have. Your parents pain, as well as the girls, is still so raw but they have handled everything with such grace. As I said before, I know why you were such a great man. You were raised by the best. For the most part, all of us are still at the Sheriffs Office. There has been a lot of changes but one thing that has not changed is how much you mean to all of us and the loss we still feel today. We miss you brother. You were taken way too soon.

We used to get so dirty playing in Basco's shop that it would take a whole tub of Go-Jo to get us clean enough to go in the house to eat. You went on to clean up the real DIRT in the world, & did one helluva job doing it. Thanks for your service that ended way too soon. Your cousin.

We used to get so greasy & dirty playing in Basco's shop when we were kids, it would take a whole tub of Go-Jo to get clean enough to be able to go in the house. Thanks for your service that ended way too soon.

I expect he knew the pride you had, and have, in him, Lauren...and I expect that he was - and is - equally proud of you. Please know the profession shares in your pride of him as a daddy and as an officer, and that you and your family remain in the thoughts and prayers of the law enforcement community.

Thank you for being the best father I could have ever had. You taught me so much in only 14 years, and I know that you are still guiding me from above. I just want you to know that I remember, I remember the talks we had and the jokes we shared. I remember how proud I was to be your daughter, and how that pride has continued to grow. That's something I never told you really, but I believe you knew. Rest in peace daddy. I'll always love and miss you.

Sneak,
I remember the first day we worked together at the US Marshal office. I tied your shoe laces together under your desk. After you stumbled on the way to lunch you smiled at me and you said " oh so this is how it's gonna be" and I replied this is exactly how this is gonna be.
Well it was the best time of my life. We did some great work, made some great memories and became best friends. You were always there for me!
The day you died in Kinston was the worst day of my life.i remember holding you and talking to you as you were leaving us. I remember wishing it were me because you we're such a good man. Well it has been two years and Istill miss you, my hand still shakes and my thoughts are as clear as they used to be . But one thing is crystal clear..I love you and I love your family and I am honored to have been with you on your first day and last day at the US Marshal Task Force. I will see you soon my friend.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son.
