Jeff,
You can take comfort in knowing that several officers watched over you and your family while you were in the hospital in Springfield. We all prayed for your recovery and return to the job you obviously loved.
Unfortunately for us here we will have to continue the watch without you, but as you begin your new watch we will always remember your service.

Officer Taylor:

With so much devastion throughout the country with our tornadoes and fires, I was worried that an officer would become a casualty. Unfortunately it was you. My sympathies to your family and your community.

You will be joining the sister of one of our officers here at Van Nuys Division, who lost her life in Tuscaloosa, and all the souls taken from New Zealand to Japan.

I only exist because my grandmother survived a disasterous fire 100 years ago in New York. Emergency Management has drawn me throughout my career.

So as a memorial to you and all the victims of this disaster, I propose to my colleagues we celebrate your life by going to Joplin, Tuscaloosa, and other parts of the country to help our fellow citizens rebuild. Though denied the privilege of knowing you I cannot help but think that is what you would do. May your memory be forever a blessing.

Los Angeles Police Department
