Your heroism and service is honored today, the 9th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I pray for the solace of everyone who misses and loves Donald. We will never forget the sacrifice made by each of the 9/11 heroes.

Most of us can only identify a few people who take up "residence" in your mind that made a huge impact in your life. Don Feser was one of those people. I came to Hwy 1 when he was a Sgt. and throughout my Hwy career I can say for sure it was because of him that I was a better Hwy cop, a better man and a better person because of him. He was someone who made you perform to a higher level because to do less was unacceptable!
Rest In Peace

WHEN I STARTED IN HIGHWAY 1 IN 1974, I GOT TO KNOW DON AND HIS PARTNER RICHIE AMBROSE VERY WELL. THEY WERE THE CONSOMATE PAIR. DON HAD A DRY SENCE OF HUMOR, AND RICHIE WAS THE STRONG SILENT TYPE.AS DON GET PROMOTED, HE NEVER FORGOT HIS ROOTS. HE WAS A TERRIFIC COP, A BETTER BOSS, AND A REAL "RED PATCH". RIP OLD FRIEND.

I was a police officer who was with Inspector Feser minutes after the collapse of the first WTC tower (South tower). We both found brief refuge within the 'Au Bon Pain' Cafe bakery, located within the lobby of the Dow Jones building, at Liberty St. and West Street. While trying to save a WSJ reporter along with the V.P. of Dow Jones, we had survived the tower's collapse from the floor above the bakery, after that V.P. and I were both blown off of our feet into an elevator bank wall from the blast of the collapse. When we escaped we entered that bakery from an inside staircase. Insp. Feser ran into that same bakery from it's street entrance during the collapse, and that's where we ran into each other. Even though I worked under him in his command, he didn't recognize who I was, because he was having trouble breathing. I remember Insp. Feser was coughing heavily, and I tried to clear suit debris from his mouth with a rag that I had found inside the bakery which I had wet from the bakery's slop-sink and I had used it to breathe through (I still have that orange rag, to this day). He then brushed my rag away from his face, telling me while he was still coughing; "I'm okay; I'm alright, I'm alright", but I could tell that he wasn't 'alright'. All of us, there, were choking -struggling to breathe. A Lt. Hinners, who also sought refuge inside of that bakery, with us, then told me and an elderly woman, whom I was also aiding, to get off of Manhattan Island via the Battery Park City bulkhead, and I then headed out into the dark street towards the Hudson River with that woman. I ended up receiving oxygen in a hospital in NJ. ...Insp. Feser, you never knew that that officer was me, a cop who worked within your command at the time. I always thought that -one day, I would be able to tell you that, but -back then, I had trouble talking about the events of that day, for a very long time. I just wish you had known, and I was thinking about that, today. You loved your job. Thank you for those times that you gave me days off to be with my ill mother -That was very nice of you. R.I.P. God Bless You.

I was proud to call Insp Feser my boss, and even more honored to call him a friend. I worked with him on and off for many years. He could be hard as nails, but if you had a family problem, the command was at your disposal. RIP " Red Patch " You will always be remembered Donnie.

Inspector, it was usually a pleasure to serve with you. ;) You were certainly one of the old school bosses & told it like it was. I enjoyed your wry sense of humor & your ability to handle any traffic issue that arose. Rest in peace.

I had the honor of crossing paths with the Inspector while he was serving at Highway 1 in Bronx. In my previous life I brought officers from police departments in Europe to visit with and train with his officers. I will never forget showing up at the station with at least 10 pizzas for him and his men whenever the need arose! This was a class act and a man who will be dearly remembered and missed.... Cuz Vinny takes his hat off to one of the our finest....
