Reflections for Police Officer J. Christopher Kilcullen

The sound of gunfire echoes,
Angels look down in sorrow,
Another officer has fallen,
The Gates of Heaven swing open,
A hero is welcomed home.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of one you hold so dear. I havd a son in Law Enforcement, & I just HOPE I never get the call you got. We are in South Georgia. My Son is in Law Enforcent about 3 to 4 hours away from me,...the hometown that HE & I grew up in. He LOVES his job...been there about 8 years now. Granted....he WORRIES as to whether or not what he is doing will be WORTH IT ALL....but....as a graduate from high school...he was going into Criminal Justice to become a Lawyer but..wanted to see THIS side of the law FIRST.He majored in Criminal Justice, & was SUPPOSED to take the SLAT to go to Law School here in Georgia. He's had a LOT of times when he could have lost his life,...but...THANKS go out to our GREAT GOD ABOVE that..SO FAR...MY Son has overcome those situations. Not a day goes by that I HATE to answer my phone concerning something about my SON. My HEART goes out to your family, friends, AND his co-workers who tried to be by Chris on a daily basis, as, according to my SON..."Mama...we are all ONE FAMILY out here...we HAVE to look out for each other". May God be your GUIDE through this. I just WISH we were closer so that I could share in your pain right now, as I have SEVERAL persons that I know personally who have lost their lives just TRYING to "protect and serve". You can contact me at my email address @ [email protected]. Again...my prayers are with ALL of you!!!

Well said Aaron Lewis. I wish I could have had the honor to have called Chris Kilcullen a friend. I can’t. But we did have a few funny and interesting (short) discussions downtown as I reflected in an earlier post. We mostly talked about motorcycle riding, what he thought of his cycle, what it was like on the beat, and I asked him how he managed to deal with some of the difficult people he came across virtually every day.

He laughed and said “as best as I can.” I’ll never forget that response and it was then I knew what a wonderful and strong human being he was. I don’t know why his death has shaken me so much--being only a passing acquaintance--but it has. I do know I will try to emulate the man in my dealings with others and treat each day as the gift it is. Because it is.

The love I have for this man can't be described in words. He was/is a friend, role model, and my brother (although not by blood or law-enforcement family). The joy and generosity that Chris embodied lit up any event or situation he was involved in. Including traffic stops. Last Friday was the darkest day of my life. The Kilcullen family lost their Chris, the community lost a major pillar and the world lost one of it's brightest spirits.

It's not a cliche. Appreciate and hug all that is dear everyday. Especially if they wear a badge and an uniform.

The goal is now to continue the essence of Officer Chris and let him continue to influence and affect all that he did when he was alive. I will try to start it with me. I am a better man for having Mr Christopher Kilcullen in my life. I think most that in came into contact with him feel the same way. God bless Kristie and their two adorable children. Bless the entire police department as they try to think of life without Officer Kilcullen. And I wish strength to a community that is in recovery mode as well.
Officer McBride said it well. "They got our best." I love you Brother.

Oh God, why? This is one of those that is impossible to fathom. But may the family rest assured they were loved by a true hero. This hero did his job with the assurance & conviction that he was proudly loved by his family. God bless the Department, Chris' friends & all who wear a badge & make "routine" stops. They are never routine so be safe. God bless this family.
