Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Eric John Stein

Lord Jesus, as we watch America’s Peace Officers succumb to the wicked and evil in this world, Shot and Killed in the Line-of-Duty, it becomes difficult for us to pick up and move forward. Our communities are on the brink of exploding with tension. In light of the peace officers who are no longer with us, I pray for endurance for our communities and law enforcement agencies. Carry us through this time of strife, that through our struggles, our bonds may grow even more unbreakable. In Your mighty and holy name, I pray. Amen.

Holy Scriptures on Law Enforcement’s Mission:

“For the policeman [peace officer] does not frighten people who are doing right; but those doing evil will always fear him. So if you don’t want to be afraid, keep the laws and you will get along well. The policeman [peace officer] is sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for he [the peace officer] will have you punished. He [the peace officer] is sent by God for that very purpose. Obey the laws, then, for two reasons: first, to keep from being punished, and second, just because you know you should.” [Romans 13:3-5 TLB]

[Jesus Said,] “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” [John 15:13 ESV]

And he [Jesus] said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” [Luke 23:43 ESV]

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons [children] of God.” [Matthew 5:9 ESV]

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” [Isaiah 6:8 ESV]

Sgt. Stein - I can't get use to that "Sergeant" term. We remember the dedicated cop that introduced himself as Eric and always wore the ballcap. It wasn't until you attended your first area intel. meeting that we discovered you were a super cop. Here is the end of an email we just sent out as we approach this terrible anniversary. "...Please remember the ultimate sacrifice he (Sgt. Stein) made and all the Law Enforcement that went to assist. God bless Sgt. Stein, the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office, Eric’s family, and all who continue to wear the badge and try to carry on in his examples of honor and sacrifice." We miss you.

Eric,
Tomorrow it will be two years ago that you died. I met you once when I was six years old, at a family picnic. All I can remember about you was your smile. It lit up my world for just a moment. I miss you, Eric, and I love you.

Sgt Stein,

I can't believe it has been over a year since you were taken from us. I attended your funeral with several of my brothers from Muscatine County. Everytime I hear "Guys like me" playing on the radio, I look down at my wristband I wear everyday in your honor. I will never forget the sacrafice you made for your community.

Eric,
I miss you buddy. You helped my family and especially me get through a lot of problems we faced and I faced as well. You are my GREATEST HERO and you will always be no matter where you are and what you are doing up in heaven. Wish there was a stairway to heaven cause then I wouldn't miss my buddy that much cause I could just walk right up there and tell you all the things going on in my life and how you changed my life. And I'll never forget the day you saved my life. I love you Eric. Your my best friend through thick and thin forever and always and eternity.

Eric was a protector from a very young age. I remember in school how he always looked out for all of us. You knew you were safe when Eric was around. He was a great friend who you could count on, he was there to make you laugh when all you really wanted to do was cry. I still have a note he passed me in school one day that said," If you need to spill your guts, I'm here, just don't spill them all over me" What an amazing person! You are missed by so many, I look forward to the day when we will meet again in our final home. God Bless!
