Reflections for Police Officer Craig Allen Birkholz

It's a sad day when yet another officer is lost in the line of duty. Though I have never met Craig I was a classmate at Tremper High School of Craig's aunt Carol, and admire Craig's accomplishments, but find his loss at his prime of life to be a tragedy.

Officer Birkholz although I did not know you, as a fellow Army veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan and serving police officer I have a connection with you as deep as blood. Your death reminds those of us who served our Country in combat and have gone on to serve it in law enforcement that the risk is just as great for us here at home. Thank you for your service, both in combat and here at home, may your family and comrades at Fond Du Lac PD take comfort in having raised, known and served with an extraordinary American and hero.
Now rest easy my Brother in honored glory, we will keep the watch.....

To Officer Birkholz' Wife:
There are no words that anyone could possibly say to ease your pain. I am terribly sorry about losing your husband so young. I've been there as well and the pain never goes away, it just somewhat 'fades' over time, but you never get over the loss. Please lean on your family and friends now. May you find the strength. You will never be alone, your husband is keeping the watch on you..... I'm so very sorry.

To Officer Birkholz:
Thank you sir for keeping us safe on the streets and for your brave service to our country. It's time to keep the watch on your family now. There WILL be a void in this world without you, I am so very sorry for whats happend and that you were taken so young. I salute you, GodSpeed.

The angels have noted your arrival in the Deck log of heaven, sir. They have piped you aboard with whistles of silver and presented you with a personal note from the Fleet Admiral: "You chose to protect and serve my people and you have done this well. Welcome aboard my ship."

I cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I heard the news on Monday morning on the television and my heart sank. Your loss is very similar to mine - responding to a call, shots fired, the suspect takes his own life at the end. May God give you strength and courage as you face the painful days ahead.
