Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Sebastian Edward Diana

You, sir, are a true hero. Your act of selflessness was what was required to perform the job under difficult circumstances where you had to make an immediate decision. It had to be done, and thankfully, you did the difficult and right thing. Unfortunately, all too often, the good guys who perform heroic acts ultimately suffer greatly for it. This is one of the unfair facts of life.

Your death is a tragedy. The job can take so much away from us in so many ways...It's not all about shootouts, chases, fights, etc. Everyone seems to forget the other, more subtle, dangers of the job (including other officers).

My deepest thoughts go to your family, friends, and co-workers during this difficult time.

Salute.

Police Corporal (Retired)
Michigan

Your death was not the result of a high speed chase gone wrong, or an armed criminal. Your actions that day in 2006, trying to save that child, were no less heroic, and your willingness to put that infant above your own safety is the epitome of what we strive to do every day.

Rest well, brother, we have the watch now.

P.O. S. Godfrey
Richmond, VA P.D.

Sebass you were a mountain of a man, a gentle giant, a loving husband and father, a great Deputy, my confidant, and my best friend. I will never forget how we got through the academy together. I will never forget how you always knew what to say to me to get me motivated. I will never forget how whenever I called, you were there. I will never forget, even though I can see you rolling your eyes at me, what a HERO you truly are. I will never forget YOU, my best friend, and I will never leave your family behind. I will always strive to be even a 1/4 of the man you were. My dear brother... We have the watch. Rest in peace.

I didn't know Deputy Diana, but no man or woman on this page should go without a reflection.

You tried to save the life of an infant... and paid for it with your own. That act in and of itself gives mute testimony to the type of man and Deputy you were.

Rest in peace.
