Leave a Reflection

Reflections for District Administrator Debra Kay Collins

To her family, Debbie would talk about different events over the past several years and it was so obvious she adored and loved each of you so much. I admired Debbie so much for her incredible strength, integrity, and positive attitude. She was such a pleasure to work with and I will miss her very much. My prayers are with you.

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

A few years back, I had the pleasure of meeting Debbie in St. Louis at a Substance Abuse/Criminal behavioral Conference. We roomed together. Debbie told me about the Cheesecake Factory, and we were in St. Louis for 4 nights and we went there, 3 of those nights. She was a very sweet person who talked about her family, with so much love. My thoughts and prayers are with Debbie's family. May God Bless and comfort you. Sincerely, Shirley Lopez PPOII, District 11.

I had the privilege of working for Ms. Collins for almost 7 years. There was no one more professional, caring, and considerate than her. I learned more and grew more professionally from her direction than anyone I have met. She was always one to see the positive in everyone around her. Debbie was the kind of person who would treat everyone with respect and take into consideration their point of view. You could count on her to bring a different perspective to a problem and do her best to work with anyone to reach a common goal.

Debbie was a great person, a great friend and someone who will never be forgotten. Please know that you made the world around you a better place for everyone. You and your family's loss is one that we will never forget. Thank you for all that you have done.

Although I did not know Debbie well, I spent enough time around her to know that she was a genuinely kind and compassionate person. In the short time that I spent in the D25 office shortly after her passing, it became clear to me that Debbie touched many lives, and was very much loved and respected. To her family, I extend my deepest sympathy for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

I have known Debbie for 21 years and have worked with her for 16 years. We were clerical together and then probation officers. She promoted to Unit Sup. and then to DA at our District. As DA she was instrumental in my promotion from probation officer to unit supervisor. I am so thankful to have had the privilege to work with her. She taught me so much. Her work ethic, integrity, and sound judgment will be greatly missed. She can never be replaced and I am thankful to have known her. Pray blessings and peace on her family.
Thank you Debbie for all you did.

I have known Debbie for over 16 years working with the local Sheriffs Department when she was a Probation Officer now working for Debbie here at District 25.

Mike, Grant and Blake; My heart goes out to you all. One of the most precious things a person can have is family. Debbie spoke of you all in such great admiration and love. Grant, when Dakota came along you could see the light in her eyes get brighter and brighter when she spoke of that new grand daughter, she was so proud.

Personally when I think of Debbie I think about how she helped so many people, not just other co-workers but offenders and everyday people. I honestly do not know if she ever saw bad in people. I have seen her work wonders with some of the people we deal with here on a daily basis. The day she gave me the phone call and asked me if I wanted to come to work here was one of the happiest days of my working career. I knew working for Debbie it would be an honest and hard working living but that she would be honest and hard working for me.

Debbie, we already miss you dearly and I know that you are not only watching over your home family but your work family as well. Thank you for being the person you were to me and may god bless you and your family.

Native American Prayer

I give you this one thought to keep --
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle spring rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still - in each new dawn.

When sitting by Debbie in meetings, it was a breath of fresh air. She did not care what your rank was, just what you could bring to the table. I looked up to Debbie and will miss her wisdom.
