Reflections for Police Officer Donald Joshua Newman

My sincere condolences for officer Newman's family. He served his county honorably in the USAF and equally as well the citizens of Jemison. I have always put law enforcement officers in the same category as active duty service members in that they are always in harms way while performing their duties. I am 100% sure that officer Newman served his community with distinction and honor.

As I passed by the Jemison Municipal Complex on Wednesday afternoon, my heart was heavy. I saw many friends, associates and family members as well as many, many fellow officers pour into the complex to offer their last respects to you. A brother, friend, husband and father gone from this world too soon. I didn't know you personally but, seeing the outpouring of love these past few days since you left, tells a beautiful story of your life. What a beautiful testimony! My prayers are with your family, your friends and fellow officers.

I grew up the only child of a firefighter/police officer and lost my dad at an early age. I pray that his son will always see pictures and hear stories of his Dad to keep his memory alive. That as he grows he will know the sacrifices both his Dad and Mom made to protect and serve the people of this area. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and son. The days ahead will be difficult, the tears plentiful but know that he is walking those streets of gold and taking his post in heaven to watch over you. May God hold you both in his arms and comfort you in the days ahead.
To Officer Josh Newman, thank you for caring about us and giving your life to protect and serve. May you rest in peace.Godspeed Officer Newman

Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.

My son Kenny Young, was a very good friend of Josh, all the boys would come to my house and hang out when they were in high school, I know you probably don't remember me Tracy, but you would come over a couple of times, you were always a beautiful girl. I am so sorry for your loss, but I always remembered Josh, he was so polite and quiet, which I am sure he was different when the adults weren't around. I will be praying for you and your son.
