Reflections for Police Officer Donald Joshua Newman

To a dedicated service member and law enforcement officer; but an even better human being. It was to my pleasure having known you during our time in Iraq, You were always the standard bearer, you made my life easy and it pains me to know that these words you will not hear. It is no surprise to me that your life was lost while in pursuit to render aid to someone else; that's the Josh I know and will always remember. Rest well my friend, I got the wheel until we meet again.

Depart in peace, Brother-in-Blue; in the name of God the Father who created you; in the name of Christ Jesus who redeemed you; in the name of the Holy Spirit who sanctifies you. May you rest in peace and dwell forever with the Lord. Amen.

Josh, brother from our military days, we had deep conversations. All thru active duty in the military you always stated what you wanted to do.. become a cop (civilian) which I commended you on. The day I found out of your passing--I was in Afghanistan--man I cried myself to sleep.. you are definitely missed and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think you of you. R.I.H.. you were/are the epitome of a great person/cop/friend.

You were always there for me when I needed you most, and tonight i need you more than ever. After 2 years it's still not easy , in fact it's getting harder not having my big brother there to give me advice and to show me how to deal with life. The one person who could get me through this pain is no longer here, but I try to get through every day with a smile on my face. It's hard josh but I know if you were here you would tell me not to be sad that you are happier now in heaven then you ever were on earth. But for us left behind the pain is still too much, the void left behind still too large. I love you brother, you're on my mind everyday. Until I see you again brother I will try to make you proud of me.

Farewell brother,the time has come,
you will be sorely missed, and you're not the only one,
I shall never forget you,

nor the sccrifices you made,
put your life on the line and saved so many,
but you yourself could not be saved,

You've left me with so much sadness,
I still remember all the good times we had,
If there was only some other way,
But you died for a cause, for a reason, for honor you always said,

I wish it didn't have to end this way,
If only I could speak to you just one more time,
and tell you how much I love and miss you little brother,
this pain will never leave me far behind,

For the world, for just one wish, anything I would give,
to see that beautiful smile on your face just once more,
you're still here with me,part of my heart, mind and soul,
I want so badly to see you walk through my door,

Above and beyond the call of duty,
I'd give my life for you if you could have stayed,
I am proud and honored to call you friend and brother,
if there could have only been some other way,

There is a place in the stars just for you,
fallen heroes, unlike any other,
A special place where you are never forgotten,
Farewell, I will see you again in heaven.

I love you so much Josh, I will think of you every day until we see each other again.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Every time I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the officer they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Newman. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. (The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. I can also be found on Face Book.) You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Donald, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Donald's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Donald's life was about so much more than the way he died. Donald will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Newman, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been eight years and he's still very much missed and forever loved.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
