Reflections for Sergeant Richard Moore Betters

Sergeant Betters, it has been 15 years since you were taken from us. New England law enforcement has continued to thrive, learn and become safer due to the traditions and sacrifices you, your family, and many others have made for us. Thank you for your 20 years of law enforcement service.

Today I trade my badge, my duty belt and my patrol car for riding gloves, a bicycle helmet and bicycle.

Today I will depart on a ride like no other. With my fellow Brother & Sister Officers, we will ride together for those who made the Ultimate Sacrifice, while in the Line of Duty.

My first ride is in honor of Sgt. Richard M. Betters of the Portland, Maine Police Department. I ride for you Sir, who has made the Ultimate Sacrifice. I ride for all those who will not return home.
