David,

I attended your funeral and I am a Chief of Police in a city not far from you. My son is a 3rd Shift Patrolman with my department. I don't have to tell you how professional, brave and strong your Mother and Father were after your death, you've seen this from Heaven. We also share the same faith, I am a proud Catholic and loved hearing about your exploits at Roncalli but the most amazing thing I heard was your speech at your High School awards ceremony. God put you on this earth as a Leader and you were a testiment to how your Mother and Father raised you. As Paul Whitesell said we were all born with an expiration stamp and only God knows when he wants to take us home. I worry about my son and all my officers and pray for them daily. I pray that your Warrior Spirit will join with St. Michael to protect my son and all Police Officers. Thank you for making me stronger in my faith and for being the hero you are. May God Bless Your Soul and all of us left behind.

THIS SEEMS LIKE A NIGHTMARE THAT I CANT WAKE UP FROM. IT IS SO HARD TO BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE GONE FROM THIS WORLD. THEY SAY IT IS SELFISH TO WISH SOMEONE BACK BUT I CANT HELP BUT TO WISH. ITS ASHAME THAT IT HAS TO BE TIMES LIKE THIS WHEN YOU REALIZE YOU TOOK PEOPLE FOR GRANTED. WE HAD MANY GREAT MEMORIES AND I WILL CHERISH THEM ALWAYS. DAVID, I KNOW YOU LOVED ME I JUST WISH I COULD TELL YOU AGAIN THAT I LOVE YOU. YOU TOOK A PIECE OF MY HEART WITH YOU, WHAT KEEPS ME GOING IS THAT I KNOW I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN. PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR ME AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT LOVES YOU.

My heart goes out to the family of Officer David Moore and to all my colleagues in the law enforcement community in the IMPD. This is a tremendous and tragic loss to us all. Though I was not personally acquainted with Officer Moore, I only wish I had been. I know he was well respected, well liked, and a fabulous police officer who we could all be proud of nationwide. The world is a better place for the lives he touched. My deepest sympathy to all; may Officer Moore rest in peace.

My thoughts are with all of your loved ones during this very trying time. I know the daily struggle they face as I too walk in their shoes. I have no secret words to offer to help with their grief because there are none. All I can suggest is for them to do everything they can to keep your memory alive which I know they will do for you are a true hero and heroes never die. I leave this for your parents:

"The sense of loss does not diminish with time. In truth, the expression, 'time heals all wounds' is a myth. For parents, the loss of a child is permanent and mental scar tissue really does not grow over the grim memory. Rather, all tears are expended and a dull ache remains."

As a daughter, sister, a friend of several officers, and ex-wife of officers, I was greatly saddened by David's loss. I have the utmost respect for your family. Mr. Moore's eulogy of his son was very moving. My brother was faced with a situation a little over a year ago where he fatally wounded a domestic abuser. I am so greatful that he was the one who got to come home that night. My brother stated on his facebook page, that David continues to save lives even after his death! Your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers!

RIP Brother, It takes a true coward to shoot an officer and a true hero to go up against the bad. You are more than a hero and like your father said a warrior.

I retired after working 24+ yrs with Decatur County Sheriff Dept. In. I consider it just an honor to view Moores funeral and grieve as I watch and listen to his parents. This family has given all of us a valuable lesson.
I can see GOD in them. I have a 40 yoa son and can't imagine what I would have done had he been killed on duty these past yrs while in the USAF. God bless each of you and know Moores life has honored many.
