You are living the fear that all families of Law Enforcement Officers have. Nothing can ease the pain of your loss. But, these men volunteer, are called, to protect the weak and defend justice. There is nothing in this world that could have kept them from that. I am in awe that there are people so selfless that they would give up what is most valued, their lives, to ensure that humanity, decency, justice, beauty, happiness, and trust can continue in our lives. Thank you for supporting your husband/father/son/brother in his calling, and for the sacrifice you ultimately made.

As Michelle's friend and Jonathan's former teacher, my heart goes out to her family upon the loss of her brother. I know Jonathan truly admired his uncle and wanted to be a police officer as well- so much so that he applied and was accepted to attend our Forsyth County Sheriff's Department summer camp. I was SO proud of Jonathan! Prayers are with their family, friends, and fellow officers...

Every time I leave my home to go 10-41, I realize, something could go wrong, and that, despite my wishes, I may not come home.

Some people wonder why so many Officers converge on towns across this nation, when an Officer is killed in the Line of Duty. I can simply say, that they come to pay respects to someone who did the job they do, in support of other Officers, as a show of respect to family, and to show Pride, Integrity and Honor for a fallen hero whose community has lost a friend. I have attended way too many of these but if you shed a tear for another, it will help cleanse your soul. It is our memories that will get you through the years.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death and though I mark on duty, my calls unknown, I fear no evil, for the majority are with me, nor do I worry of my own safety, all of this I do for the citizens of my community. An Officer’s family can be filled with worry and though they are strong, they know that their loved one may be placed in harm’s way. Through this, they stand tall, with Pride, Integrity and Honor.

To all Law Enforcement, risking your life for the benefit of others and who are trying to make a difference, may God bless and keep you safe.

Jeff grew up in Putnam Valley NY before moving to Fl. My wife is close with the family and talks to Jeff's sister frequently. I broke the news to her last night when she got home from work. We're both devestated and sadened by this tragic event. There are not enough words that express our sorrow for Jeff, his family and colleagues.
Rest in Peace my brother. God bless you and bless all the men and women who proudly wear the badge.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.... See More
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
