Reflections for Police Officer Jeffrey Adam Yaslowitz

Officer Burton's brother is one of my Deputies up here in Minnesota. Officer Burton's brother (Kyle) and one of my Sergeants (my brother in law) went down to St. Petersburg last year to visit and do some training with your SWAT. Both were very impressed and both got to meet and build new friendships. Officer Yaslowitz was one of those new friends. His loss and the loss of Officer Baitinger is felt across the country even to here in central Minnesota. We are shocked at this senseless violence against those whom serve your great city and we are hurting today. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten and your courage in the face of evil will stand as an example for all Law Enforcement Officers throughout the world. My heart is heavy today for your family and I know that everyone here at the Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office is praying for you, your family and your fellow officers. God Bless you.

"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,
and a part of America died.

Avenue of the Fallen

Standing at attention in their class “A“ uniforms, badges gleaming and shoes like glass, are your brothers and sisters of Law Enforcement. All of whom have previously paid the ultimate price.
Today, like many others, they welcome you to this wonderful place. As you march down the Avenue of the Fallen, all eyes focus on you as if to say its ok you’re with your eternal partners. A salute is followed and a tear can be seen on so many faces.
Welcome, you served well.
Now come join us in the ranks, another is coming home.

Officer Yaslowitz, you were definitely showing the kind of hero you were by helping out in such a dangerous situation. Going beyond the call.... To your family: my prayers are with you as you begin the journey that you started travelling yesterday as it is a rough one. There are many police survivors in Florida who will reach out to you in person and many more of us who will have our arms around you in spirit.
