I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband, Tom. The dedication the two of you endured over the past 31 years must have been difficult, but I commend you on your emotional and physical struggle as I do Tom. God Bless you and may he rest in peace.

For Police Officer Tom Hayes:

Our pledge to serve others, when taking the oath of the law officer, is almost always accepted without hesitation by the newly appointed officer. It is in cases such as our brother Tom's that brings about our focused attention. We regret that he would have carried the wounds of an horrific encounter so long ago. We laud his resolve to continue-on in some capacity of public service. Tom stands tall as a living hero - both then and now.

We pray for Tom's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they live-on in the light that he has shown to all of us. And, may they all perpetuate it's intensity. We admire his demonstration of yet another kind of hero.

I am proud to render Officer Tom Hayes a final salute.

I know that the Lord holds a special place for you. Having a loved one serve as a police officer is one of the most difficult but honored job. Remember that your husband will be watching over you from the Heavens and he will protect you from the evil. I have never met your husband, let alone work for that fine agency, though I feel the city, state, and our nation has lost one brave man. I serve those who protect our freedoms.
