Even the angels in heaven were weeping with us on this rainy day today. Roger devoted his life to protecting us from the very element that took this brave warrior from us, and we are all devastated. To his wife, his children, his family and loved ones, my deepest, deepest sympathy in your loss. I know that, at this moment, the fact that Roger died a true hero in every sense of the word is little comfort to you, but one day it will be. I will be praying that God will comfort you and bring you peace in the days, weeks, and years ahead. Never forget that Roger's extended family, the Miami-Dade Police Department, is a very close-knit family and we are here for you in any way and for anything that you need. We loved Roger and we love you for sharing him with us for the time we had him.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Detective Castillo.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.
