"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Larry, we have the watch...

”I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
---Isaiah 6:8

You answered the call and made the ultimate sacrifice. Rest easy in God's kingdom and watch over us as we continue the battle here on earth!!!

My thoughts are with the Nehasil family and the Livonia Police Department. As a Canadian Police Officer it does not get any easier to deal with the loss of a brother or sister officer no matter which side of the boarder we serve on. May God be with you all and Larry, RIP my man. You deserve it.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer Nehasil.

While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

We all owe Officer Larry Nehasil an enormous debt of gratitude for having watched over us for the past 20 years. Because of the profession he dedicated his life to, Officer Nehasil sacrificed precious time with his wife, sons, family and friends and faced danger daily. Now he has made the ultimate sacrifice, and we are saddened by this tragic and needless death. Our prayers are sent up for his family and fellow officers as they face the days and years ahead without him. This hero made a difference in the world and will continue to be remembered. I never had the honor of meeting Officer Nehasil, but as a fellow police officer I feel I knew him well by his character. Larry Chose a path in life that is chosen by few but needed by many, that of a protector. Larry CHOSE to put himself in harms way for others, first as a police officer, and then by his choice of assignments. It is these choices that make Larry a hero. "It is not how these officers died that made them heroes, it is how they lived."

For Larry's family, friends, and coworkers at the Livonia Police Department, I hope you can find some comfort in the number of entries left here on this site. Larry was a member of a very large family, that of law enforcement, and he will be forever remembered "A HERO". From myself and all the members of the Dearborn Heights PD......
GOD Bless & GOD Speed
