Reflections for Police Officer John B. Maguire

The officer died because of an individual that should have remained in prison was released. If there is any solace for his family and his Department it is that this individual didn't harm any other innocents. May God take good care of him, his family left behind and his brother officers.

My dad was a plain clothes police officer in Ma and when I was a little girl I remember the pain he felt when he killed a murderer in self defense. He received many plaques of honor and many calls of thanks. However, it bothered him even though the criminal was going to shoot him without thought. When I heard the sad news about Officer John Maguire I couldn't help to think about my own dad. My whole world would have been different if the criminal killed my father instead of my dad killing him. It's been years, too many to count since that night and I wish with all my heart that Officer John Maguire had survived. My heart goes out to his family and fellow officers. Remember their grief will go on and doesn't stop after a funeral. Reach out to them all and keep them in your prayers.I was fortunate to keep my dad around for many years. I salute you Officer Maguire. So wouldn't my dad. May you rest in peace.

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

What a shame. What a crying shame that you lost your life at the hands of a suspect who had been sentenced to multiple life sentences. Well, thankfully, you gave him a life sentence that he can't walk away from. What a shame we lock up people for petty drug offenses so much so that we don't have space to house people who should never be released. As a result, fine officers like yourself are murdered in cold blood.

I send my highest, deepest condolences to the Woburn Police
Department and the Maguire family for the loss of their
family member, friend, and fellow policeman. Many years ago,
I wrote a poem, labeling all who risk their lives to help
others as heroes. Officer Maquire is one of those men. From
what I've heard on the news, he did his job, risking his life
for the safety of others. He paid the ultimate price. It touched me deeply to see so many police officers from Massach-
setts and surrounding states at his funeral. It just goes to
show that friendship, love and respect for a fellow police
officer can go a long way. God Bless You.
