Reflections for Police Officer Douglas Scott Goeble

I can remember many nights that I have cried myself to sleep because of the loss of Doug. Doug was a very positive influence on my life. I met Doug when I was only 5 and he lived with my family at the time. Doug was a wonderful person with a heart of gold.

I was horrified to read that a man can slay his girlfriend and a police officer and only receive 15 years. I hope true justice finds this killer.

again i read of justice at its worse.how can a low life murder a girlfriend and a police officer, receive life in prison and be eligible for parole after serving only 15 years.there is certainly something wrong with this picture.life in prison should be exactly that ( LIFE )
rest in peace officer, justice was not served.

Everyone, regardless of their occupation, should be able to enjoy life to the fullest and is entitiled to live a normal, natural life span.

However, as we all know, sometimes life is not fair.
Doug's death, in the line of duty, was just such an example.

As a young man, he still had his whole life ahead of him.
Needless to say, a single criminal action robbed all the remaining family members of any sembelance of Doug's earthly presence and the sharing of treasured family experiences.

That is grossly unfair, but for someone who chose to be a police officer as a profession, it is a calculated risk that one accepts as part of his job. However, it is obvious, Doug put his desire to protect the public ahead of his own personal desires. In essence, he sacrificed his life for the citizens of San Antonio.

When an officer, such as Doug, gives his/her life in the line of duty, it is sad to think about all the right of passage events Doug will miss since his remaining years of a natural life span were prematurely cut short. It is sad to realize, that those years, can never be recovered or shared with his remaining family members.

If anything positive can be said of someone's death, we as citizens, have to realize that another criminal was taken off of the streets before he committed other crimes that affected even more lives/family members.

Additionally, a second positive thing resulted from Doug's death. His parent's turned their anger to positive energy and worked tirelessly to successfully change certain existing laws to allow victims and their families more rights and to put additional teeth in the law for officers killed on or off the job.

Since I knew Doug and his parents as friends and neighbors, my heart goes out to the remaining family members of Officer Doug Goeble's family and for those natural years of life he was robbed of by a single criminal action.

With saddest reflections, of a fine person, by the name of Doug Goeble...let it be said that his untimely death was not in vain.
