Deputy Brownlee is a hero who was killed trying to make our streets safer for all of us. God bless you & RIP.

To all his fellow co-workers stay strong and keep up the good work. That punk got what he asked for!

And to his family, I am so sorry for your loss. No words will ever make things better or bring back your loved one, but please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. This hit us all hard, as it always does. But when it is right next door it is a little harder to swallow.

Thank you Luke McDonald for elegantly putting into words the thoughts I had when I heard the news of Sam Brownlee’s passing. Working in two different Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office I did not have the opportunity to become good friends with Sam but there will always be a bond among men and women in our profession and a deep feeling of loss. R.I.P. Deputy and God bless your family

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of your loss. He was a very professional officer, I had the opportunity to work with him on a couple of calls. He will be missed.

We stand on the shoulders of so many who go before us and make our lives better. We also are blessed with those who walk beside us to help and protect us. Sheriff Brownlee, you walked beside us and your service made Weld and Colorado a better place. Your strong and amazing wife will hold up your honor and you and your deeds will not be forgotten. Our hearts are broken when we lose those who serve and protect. My prayers and hopes are that the community will support your wife and family as they have so lovingly done. With deepest sympathy to Heather and the kids and all who loved you.

I want to thank Deputy Brownlee's family for not only supporting him in profession, but for sharing him with the citizens of Weld County and surrounding areas. This world is a better place because he was here. My heart goes out to you in this very difficult time. I wish you peace and love and remind you your loved one has already found both.

Deputy Sam Brownlee, Thank you for choosing to make a difference. Thank you for your bravery. You will always be remembered as a hero. While I'm sure you will be watching over your family and your brothers and sisters in uniform from above, remember: Rest now. Your work here is done. Go with God, for we will carry on in your stead.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
