I would like to express my deepest condolences to the friends and family of Sam Brownlee. Reading of his passing in the news this afternoon was truly heartbreaking. I would like to thank Brownlee for his service and dedication to the community. It is people like him that make our communities safer. There are a lot of people like myself who take a lot of comfort in knowing that there are brave men and women like Brownlee willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Rest in peace and God bless you.

I worked on the street with Sam for close to four years before I transferred to the jail. Sam was a great deputy and an even better person. He loved being a cop and he loved helping people. Sam, you are in a different beat now. We have the watch here, but I know you have our backs. See you again someday. I will miss you.

Corrections Officer Kirk Higgins

I have known Sam since he was a young child. He and his brother, Mike would come to my house and play with my kids. I was a deputy sheriff at that time. Sam wanted to be a Police Officer and asked me to help him get his foot in the door which I did by helping him start his Police career at Gilcrest. Sam has stopped by to talk many times and he was always proffessional about his attitudes towards police work and the Sheriffs Office as well as his fellow employees. He was recently at my house and we talked about my recent fishing trip to Alaska and I told him to put it on his bucket list.I had the utmost respect for Sam. Deputy Sheriff Sam Brownlee you became a fine man in the truest sense of the word and a superb law enforcement officer. I will miss you Rest In Peace.

Sam always went above the call of duty. When we needed some help with a family issue, he was right there (on his day off). He sat at my dining room table and helped us think rationally. Sam was a dear friend and had a huge heart for others.

I didn't know Dep Brownlee personally but have spoken to him on the phone. I also believe he was involved in cases to which I was the dispatcher. As neighboring agencies, this makes it close to home for us too. I am so sorry for your loss - loss of a good man and a good deputy. My prayers are with you. God bless you and comfort you now and always, K Cook
