I have known Sam since he was a young child. He and his brother, Mike would come to my house and play with my kids. I was a deputy sheriff at that time. Sam wanted to be a Police Officer and asked me to help him get his foot in the door which I did by helping him start his Police career at Gilcrest. Sam has stopped by to talk many times and he was always proffessional about his attitudes towards police work and the Sheriffs Office as well as his fellow employees. He was recently at my house and we talked about my recent fishing trip to Alaska and I told him to put it on his bucket list.I had the utmost respect for Sam. Deputy Sheriff Sam Brownlee you became a fine man in the truest sense of the word and a superb law enforcement officer. I will miss you Rest In Peace.

Retired WCSO deputy and friend

Mrs. Brownlee, we are sadden to hear about the ultimate sacrifice your husband, and you made today in the line of duty. We want you to know, you have a strong support system in the fellow brothers and sister's in blue, please rely on them, lean on their shoulders. Trust us, they are big strong shoulders, and they will hold you, and your family up. Your husband, now patrols the skies with the other hero's.

You did it, brother. You got the bad guy, it just took a little longer. Don't worry, you won't see him where you are. Watch over us; you know we could always use an angel.

Sam always went above the call of duty. When we needed some help with a family issue, he was right there (on his day off). He sat at my dining room table and helped us think rationally. Sam was a dear friend and had a huge heart for others.

I didn't know Dep Brownlee personally but have spoken to him on the phone. I also believe he was involved in cases to which I was the dispatcher. As neighboring agencies, this makes it close to home for us too. I am so sorry for your loss - loss of a good man and a good deputy. My prayers are with you. God bless you and comfort you now and always, K Cook
