To the family and friends of Deputy Sam Brownlee and his fellow deputies:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Sam was tragically killed.

To the Brownlee family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. Sam will always be honored and revered.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Sam gave to his community and the citizens of Colorado as a law enforcement officer, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on November 23, 2010.

As a fellow law enforcement officer hearing the tragic news of Deputy Brownlee's death a part of all of us dies with him. We pray for his family, his co-workers and his community. The men and women of the Scottsbluff Police Department continue to do the work very few choose to do, all the time thinking of lives, like Deputy Brownlee's taken far to soon. God Bless you.

As a former deputy, we never think for a minute that this moment in time will come when we have to say goodbye to one of our own. We all know the risk, but, deep inside we yearn to help others and protect those that cannot. My prayers are with his family, who have themselves sacrificed and now are without a man who gave all.
