RIP Officer Cooper - As always, vigilance is paramount in all aspects of inmate transport - the Courts must understand the bases for security measures so the discretion to maintain restraints need remain in the hands of the custodial agency, not defense counsel or the courts. Officer Cooper your 15yrs were not served in vain, you will always walk the high ground. God Speed.

This did NOT have to happen. These judges who know better than the LE personnel escorting these inmates need to be booted from the bench! In our locale, the only time prisoners in custody of corrections are not in full restraints at court is for a trial. A hearing in front of a judge does NOT warrant removal of restraints in our area, and judges who in the past have wanted that done were told that would happen only if he put it in writing that it was an order, under protest by our agency. Even then, we would be armed to the teeth during these procedings.

We will pray for Officer Cooper's family, as well as his coworkers. Please be careful out there, as well as on the inside.

Sgt. Rich Cole
Oswego County Sheriff's Office Jail Div.

Thank you for your years of service and for doing whatever it took to keep the public safe. We will all be a little safer with you watching down on us as we walk our beat inside the wire. R.I.P.

This incident is a confirmation of how dangerous the work environment is for Correctional Officers. My deepest sympathies go out to Officer Cooper's family, friends, and fellow officers. May God comfort your family and friends. You have to be a very special person to be a corrections officer. What a waste of that special person. We need more people who can do this difficult job. Rest in peace Brother! You are with the angels! May the Holy Spirit surround your family with his protecting love...
