David---
Man, this is very hard to write. For the first time since I can't tell you when, I turned my cell phone off when I went to bed. Turned it back on this morning before going to work, and got a text from Becky, saying, "Call John ASAP." Saw she had sent it around 2AM. Just being that time of night, I knew it wasn't good.
Called John, and he told me about what happened. I couldn't believe it, and basically have been in shock all day....not only thinking about Lynetta, but John, as well.
Talked to Becky earlier this afternoon, and asked how Lynetta, and John, too, were doing, and she said Lynetta was leaning on John quite a bit, and that John was really having a tough time with it.
Trust me, my Friend.....I'm honored that Lynetta is relying on my little bro' and Becky for support. David, he thought the world of you, and loved you immensely. Dang near any time I would talk to him, he would bring up your name.....of something you had done, or something that you and him had done together. Like I said...David, he loved you so much. What time you and I ever had together, I always thought the world of you and your family. You are a "Blue Chip".
I know I have rambled on and on, so guess I better bring this to a close.
God had a special plan for you, and I know you are happy and at peace.
With this, my Friend, sleep easy in God's arms, and no doubt, I'll see you again.

Love you---
TP

Taps

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lake, from the hills, from the sky;
All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.

Fading light, dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright.
From afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.

Thanks and praise, for our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, neath the sky;
As we go, this we know, God is nigh.

Sun has set, shadows come,
Time has fled, Scouts must go to their beds
Always true to the promise that they made.

While the light fades from sight,
And the stars gleaming rays softly send,
To thy hands we our souls, Lord, commend.

I salute you, Corporal Slaton, for your service.

For Corporal David Ralph Slaton:

Our duty as law officers takes us onto one the most dangerous battlefields - a United States highway. We regret that our brother David would become the latest statistic. Another soldier-of-the-law has been taken from us because fate has deemed it to be so.

We pray for David's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another in the days ahead.

I am proud to render Corporal David Slaton a final salute.

Pennsylvania State Police
