For Sergeant Thomas Alexander:

Our duty as law officers takes us into situations that are dangerous and unpredictable. Among them is the response to burglary-in-progress. Nothing can be assumed, neither the number of culprits nor their level of intention. Each response has it's unknowns. For our brother Tom, it was low-down individuals with murder in their hearts. We regret that he would lose his life in this way - but he has attained the status of Hero among Heros. Among the bravest of law officers, he stands a true soldier-of-the-law.

We pray for Tom's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to support one another as the needs arise.

I am proud to render Sergeant Thomas Alexander a final salute.

Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.)
Pennsylvania State Police

His Judgment Day:
The officer stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shinning, Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, Officer, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek To my church have you been true?"
The officer squared his shoulder and said, "No, Lord, I guess I aint, Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was rough, And sometimes I've been violent Because the streets are tough.
But I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep.. Though I worked a lot of overtime, when the bills got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept an unmanly tear.
I know I don't deserve a place among the people here. They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't...I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne, where the saints often trod. As the officer waited quietly for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Officer. You've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on heaven's streets, You've done your time in hell"

It will never be the same without TA patrolling the streets of my home town. Always a smile, always that contagious laugh.....a big man with a big heart. To my friends at RPD and RPSO, our prayers are with you. Nothing can stop the pain we feel and maybe someday we will understand. The way he died is the way he lived...giving of himself to others. To Big Will, Tater, Opie and G, I pray for that God will give you comfort and strength in this terrible time. To Tommy, thank you for your service and for being my friend. You were a tribute to the badge and the profession. I will miss training with you and we are better cops for having had the honor of serving next to you. May God bless your family and give them peace.
