In Honor of your Sacrifice and for your family and friends, I salute you as a HERO!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whose blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Tony, I never met you, but I know your father. I work in the county where you grew up. You look so much like your father it's kinda scary. I can't imagine what your poor mother is going through right now having to witness your death. Now you and Matt will be together as partners forever. Keep a watch out for all of us and keep us safe. We have the watch brother. God Bless your family.

You are an inspiration for what you accomplished in your short life. Your death, along with your partner's has rocked our small law enforcement community in Alaska. When one falls, it affects us all, let alone two together. I will continue to keep your family and friends in my thoughts and always pass on how incredible a person you are and will always be.

Thank you for your service.

I just read on LinkedIn and RIT's Alumni page about Tony's death to which, I did a search on Google and just read about 10 different articles concerning the situation. What a shame and quite unbelievable. It seems like it was just the other month when I got an Alumni email about Tony becoming a police officer up in Alaska/graduating from his K9 class and here I am reading articles about him being ambushed by some psycho. He will be missed by me.

Although I wasn't the greatest on RIT's team during my years, I have always credited Tony as being the individual who taught me the most about wrestling and who pushed me the hardest mentally. Practice was tough every day, I would get my butt kicked by Tony day-in-day-out yet I would still come back every day and try my best as Tony hit me with yet another unstoppable Double-Leg. I actually went on to coach at the local high school near my home (where I also graduated from) after returning from college and passed on the wrestling dedication Tony instilled in me to many kids.

He will be missed. God has a plan for everyone and sometimes He just makes you wonder... Why such a good guy?

My heart is full of sadness, and at the same time, it is full of gratitude that I had the privilege and honor to be associated with Sergeant Anthony Wallace in the work to which he had dedicated his life, He was my Brother in Blue.

Our brother was not only a devoted and loyal public servant he was much more. He was a g...reat person, a person of integrity and honor. Sergeant Wallace shared our ideas, our thoughts, our principles, our desires, and our dedication to serve the communities in which we live. It is with sad heart and tearful eye that we prepare for the final farewell. I am sure if anyone deserves a reward beyond this world; Sergeant Anthony Wallace deserves it fully.
