To the family and friends of Officer Michael Bailey and his fellow officers:

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Michael was tragically killed.

To Officer Bailey's family, my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in the Bay Area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Michael gave to his community and the citizens of Illinois, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on July 18, 2010.

God bless the family, friends and Chicago Police Department. This is a heinous crime that is so senseless. Why? Because an absolutely cowardly, selfish individual or individuals wanted something that they did not want to work for and took a wonderful life in a senseless act. Bless those who are brave and put a shield on every day.

On the 18th of July I was driving through the windy city on my way up to Minnesota completely unaware that Chicago had just lost a hero. It wasn't until today that I learned of Officer Bailey's untimely death. May you rest in peace and may God bless you and the members of the Chicago Police dept.

Dear Precious Mike,
From you I learned that "Problems are opportunities that are brilliantly disguised as impossible situations". Your wisdom, committment to serve, and making a difference in this world everyday and everywhere you went inspired me to transform from a place of brokeness to becoming the author for the story of the rest of my life. Your insights and truth provided clarity and enabled me to evolve to become a woman of greatness. The heartache I feel is indescribable. Me and my children pray for God to surround your loved ones with his strong able arms, to comfort them and that the immense memories they have of you will also provide comfort and a desire to continue to spread the seeds of your legacy that embraced honor, love, and integrity. Rest in peace, my dear friend. I love you. God Bless you...

For Police Officer Michael R. Bailey:

The risks of the law officer do not remain only asssociated with the regular tour-of-duty. Indeed, as has happened so often, we are the target of criminals who occupy the streets. We are sworn to duty whether during our shift or the times in between.

We regret that our brother Michael had to be the subject of thugs who would gang-up on him just for the sake of committing a robbery, and that he would die in the street as a victim of crime. We rely upon our brother and sister officers everywhere to continue with a relentless and sustained search to bring those responsible for Michael's murder to justice. However many of us it takes. No matter how long it takes. And whatever we must do to see that these culprits are prosecuted in a court of law.

We pray for Michael's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another as the needs arise.

I am proud to render Officer Michael Bailey a final salute.
