Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Melissa J. Powers

Rest in peace my sister in blue, now you can walk Heaven's beat. Your family, friends, and co-workers with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office are in my thoughts and prayer

Sr. Officer D. Johns

I am a surviving spouse of a LEO who died in the line-of-duty from a cardiac arrest, while at work. We had a 13 yr. old daughter.

I have no words that will ease your pain or put the pieces of your broken heart back together. But I can promise you that God's mercy and grace is there throughout the anger, misery, and heartbreak. His arms will lift you up and give you strength needed to take that next breath and step after step. You and the children WILL survive. It won't be easy and certainly not pretty, but YOU WILL. Accept all the help others want to give and let people love you.

Never forget that she was A HERO, sacrificing self to "serve and protect" others. And always remember that strangers like me will continue praying for you and the children in the many months to come. You are not alone.

spouse of ATSAIC Chris Smith, US Secret Service
